The goal: judge construction before the origin claim
Country of manufacture matters where it improves customisation, accountability and future service. It does not replace engineering or upholstery quality.
Ask what the frame is made from
Timber, engineered components, steel and mixed construction can all work when designed correctly. Ask about jointing, bracing, span, warranty and how the frame is supported—not only whether somebody used the word hardwood.
Understand suspension
Webbing, springs and platform systems create different seat response and long-term behaviour. Suspension should suit the cushion system. Sit across the centre, edge and module joins rather than one showroom position.
Read foam as a system
Density, firmness and layering are different properties. High-density foam can be soft or firm depending on formulation; feather or fibre wraps alter feel and maintenance. Ask how the cushion is built and what reshaping it requires.
Inspect upholstery execution
Pattern alignment, seam position, tension and corner work reveal whether the fabric was applied with control. A premium textile cannot rescue weak upholstery. Look at the rear and underside, not only the hero angle.
Consider future service
