Width, depth, height, configuration and packaged size need to be tested against use—not judged separately.
Start with required circulation
Draw the main paths between entry, kitchen, dining and balcony. Protect those routes before assigning the sofa footprint. Use passage widths appropriate to the residence and residents, not one arbitrary internet number.
Model usable depth
Overall depth includes back and frame; seat depth determines posture and comfort. A very deep sofa can consume the room while still offering fewer upright seats. Test how the residents actually sit and entertain.
Choose width by seating behaviour
A nominal three-seater may not seat three adults comfortably if arms are wide or cushions divide awkwardly. Compare modules and seat divisions across the sofa and sectional collections.
Set height against view and room volume
Low furniture can preserve glazing and long views; higher backs can create comfort and acoustic separation. Test the seated eye line and the approach from the entry.
Verify access and assembly
The perfect footprint is irrelevant if a rigid frame cannot clear the lift or corridor turn. Modular construction, removable legs and on-site assembly can be design advantages.

- Define real seating behaviour.
- Check true seat capacity.
- Test the seated view.
- Allow side tables and lamps.
- Set the rug relationship.
- Verify packaged access.
- Tape the outline in the room when access is available.
Measure the life around the sofa, not only the sofa.
